We have booked accommodation in Thailand for 89 days. We are Canadian and planning to arrive and use the 60 day visa exemption. If our accommodation end date and return flight are both 89 days after arrival is that a problem? We plan to do a 30 day extension but worry that the onward ticket already dated 89 days later will be a problem on arrival. We were in Thailand using visa exemption in January of this year and came home to Canada 60 days later.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is concerned about arriving in Thailand on a 60-day visa exemption while having booked accommodations for 89 days and a return flight for the same date. They plan to extend their stay by applying for a 30-day extension. Community members emphasize that airlines are the primary concern regarding onward tickets, suggesting strategies such as booking a cheap onward ticket or having proof of onward travel to avoid issues during check-in. Many share their experiences and opinions, highlighting that while not always required by immigration, proving onward travel can prevent complications at the airport.
Airline might ask, which could create a problem with checkin…..I never travelled here without proof of onward travel, that said, only occasionally asked….
I’m from Canada. I never book a return ticket. I always stay 90 days too. If immigration asks. I say I didn’t book it yet because I don’t want to be stuck with flying out of a certain airport. I want the flexibility of flying around the country.
they did last time. Nothing that three crisp 1000 baht bills don’t fix 🤣 also got the immigration contact now to fasttrack the whole process next time 🤣
I always worry about the airline not allowing me to check in albeit i only had a sticky situation once (Bali to Manila). I just bought a cheap single ticket Manila to Jeju Island eventhough onwardticket.com solution would be probably just as good. Never been asked by immigration authorities though.
You could always book a throwaway ticket booked within the 60 days just incase you are asked. You could get the cheapest flight ticket or a bus ticket out of Thailand
