TLDR : Answer Summary
In Thailand, you generally must visit the Department of Land Transport (DLT) to renew your car registration. However, some DLT offices now offer drive-through services for paying taxes, and you typically do not need to bring your car if it is less than 7 years old, as no inspection is required.

Less than 7yrs old does not need inspection. You can go to DLT, do not need to bring the car

Depends which DLT office you go and if there is a que. The actual payment only takes less than 3min. Use the drive thru if there is one

Many DLT"s now have drive through for paying tax. I don't believe the vehicle needs to be present to do so.
