Today, I received approval for DTV from the US Thai Consulate. I want to open a Thai bank account preferably with Kasikorn. Has anyone successfully opened a Thai bank account with the DTV?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around opening a Thai bank account with a DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) at Kasikorn Bank. Users share experiences that suggest Kasikorn is quite strict about account openings for certain visa types, recommending trying other banks like Krungthai or Bangkok Bank. Some commenters mention successful account openings with tourist or ED visas, while others note the need for an agent or specific documentation, such as a certificate of residence due to the 90-day reporting requirement.

What category did you use to apply for DTV and which embassy in US did you use?

Approved for DTV digital nomad by Los Angeles Consulate

Your visa requires 90 day reporting which qualifies you for a certificate of residence. With that you should be able to manage without an agent.

Would be strange if you can stay in a country for five years without being allowed to open a bank account there, no matter the class of the visa.

It's a 5 year Visa but you must leave at least once every 360 days

so 4 days out the country in 5 years.

Not even 4 days, can be 4 hours

That's still fairly long. If I'm correct, you qualify for that certificate if you have to do 90 day reports.

Luckily I was able to get a bank accou t with Kasikorn last year when they accepted ed visa. But now I think you have to come to Pattaya and pay an agent 5k to open up one with Bangkok Bank.

Kasikornbank is quite strict and difficult. I have a few friends manage to open an account with bangkok bank inside Centralworld using tourist visa.

Off topic: this was also my issue the past week as I’m on ED visa and Kasikorn particularly in Sukhumvit 33 which is considered a foreigner hub won’t allow to open a bank account unless you have a Work visa instead. Luckily, Krungthai Bank beside that allowed me to do so. Just need to have your passport and visa docs ready. You may want to try with them if Kasikorn won’t allow you.

same as you. Krungthai no problem, in and out in about 40 mins. Passport (ed visa stamp) certificate of residence and tm30.

The law that created the DTV visa basically calls it a special tourist visa. I'd bet you'll need to use an agent to get an account opened, but if you want to try on your own first you'll just have to hit as many bank branches as you can and hope you find one that will do it.

@Alexander ***
cause its still hard. The only one the agents are using is Bangkok bank
Alexander ****
no. My question to him was why open in k bank

@Ray ******
you will struggle to open a bank with kasikorn even with an agent. 99.9% of them only offer Bangkok bank but you’ll have to ask around

I agree. I recommend an agent.
