Can I obtain a Thai education visa while working towards a teaching credential or taking an online course?

Question about education visa: I am interested in teaching at international schools in Thailand but most require a teaching certificate, which I don't have. I was wondering if I could attempt to get a teaching credential in Thailand and have my class work for my education visa? Additionally, I'm concerned that most schools around the world prefer an American/British teaching credential, so I'm wondering if doing an American/British class online would qualify me for the education visa as well.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The inquiry discusses the possibility of obtaining a Thai education visa while pursuing a teaching credential and concerns about the recognition of online courses. Various comments point out that a degree in education is typically needed to teach at international schools, and that additional requirements like having a work permit might be involved. There are suggestions for alternative paths, such as pursuing a TEFL course on a tourist visa, though doubts are raised about the viability of securing an education visa for shorter programs. The conversation touches on the need for in-class teaching hours for credentialing and acknowledges exceptions in certain teaching roles.

I friend of mine thought physical education at an international school without teaching credentials... so, they do exceptions accordingly

Teaching credentials are issued by 4 year universities, after you have your degree, and as such any program you resister for, and pay for, is covered as a legitimate school for an ED visa. The better international schools require actual teaching experience, usually 3-5 years minimum, not just a teaching credential.

You can not get a teaching credential from a university online, because part of the program involves so many hours of in class teaching, not online.

Great! Would this hypothetical school have to be in Thailand or could I study online at a U.S./British school?

u can just do TEFL on a tourist visa, its a 4 week course. Or you can even do it online. Really dont think you could get an education visa for a tefl course and even if hypothetically you could it would only be for the duration of the course which is within the visa free window anyways

Don't you require a work permit to teach not an education visa?

Yes, but I am looking into the possibility of obtaining my teaching credential so that I can apply to international schools here and get a work permit. I have enough savings to focus on studies without working for awhile

Ok that makes sense

A college professor does not require teaching certificate.

From my experience you need a degree in Education to teach in International schools.

Do you have a degree in teaching?

No, just an M.A. in History. I'm specifically wondering if I can get a teaching degree/TCT and make it a part of an ED Visa

With a Masters degree in History, I believe a straightforward TEFL course will bring you up to speed

The problem I've found is that many international schools post that they are only looking for people with teaching credentials

correct, they want qualified teachers with the necessary teaching qualifications. In short, they hire career teachers so if you want to teach in one then you will need to do the necessary qualifications and get some actual teaching experience.
