The re-entry permit can be obtained at the airport, is it air side ?, as I stay very near Don maung so I thought I could go the day before flying to purchase it .
Answer summary
You can only obtain a re-entry permit at Don Mueang Airport after you have cleared security and checked in for your flight. This means it is airside, and you must have a valid boarding pass for the same day to access the re-entry booth. If you wish to acquire a re-entry permit in advance, you must do so from an immigration office prior to your departure.

Way up the hassle for travelling to and queuing at immigration against doing at the airport.
Last time I did it at the airport, about 10 minutes depending on any queue.
Pre fill your downloadable TM.8 and provide a photo to speed things up. Proceed through security a little earlier than usual in case a little busier, you can look through the glass to the left before taking the elevator at Gate 2
Tomas Arndt come on, you made myday . . . . you need to apply ON Immigration. Or you need to apply BEFORE you exit Thailand, at the re-entry booth. You do not "go to Immigration" other than if you mean he should visit Immigration Laksi Square to buy the re-entry permit
Tongjun you can only buy it at the DMK if you are already past the security check on your way to your flight and getting ready to exit. You would need to buy it on your Immigration if you want it before you exit Thailand. You need TWO passport size pictures, a single re-entry permit is 1000 THB on Immigration. It#s 1200 Baht at the airport. In Bangkok you go Laksi Square IT Center AFAIK for the purchase of a re-entry permit
