Simple question, probably obvious, but I'd rather play safe: if my visa expires on day x, can I leave on that day or do I have to leave "up to that date"? I'm guessing the former, but just to be safe...

TLDR : Answer Summary
You can leave Thailand on the same day your visa expires, up to 11:59 PM on that date as per your stamp. It's advisable to exit before then to avoid complications, although there are situations where late departures are not enforced strictly.

You can leave after that date to as Long as you have ฿500 per day of overstay and you don’t get caught by the police…but if you want to play it safe you can leave up to 2359 of the day your stamp expires and 9 out of 10 times the immigration officers will look the other way if you pass through immigration at like 0030-0200 on the next day for your departure flight
I was aware of the 500 Baht extra charge, but not about that flexibility they have with the date when it’s really close. Good to know!

Edit. Your visa expiry date is irrelevant it’s the stamp you’re allowed to stay until that counts. You can leave up to 11:59pm on that date stamped (x).
not sure what you mean. On entry you get stamped in for the number of days allowed for that visa/entry type. You get a stamp saying “admitted to stay until” xx/xx/xx.
