TLDR : Answer Summary
The question addresses concerns about international travel from Thailand to the UK and back while holding a Single Entry Tourist Visa (SETV). The user plans to travel to the UK for two weeks due to a bank hack and wants to confirm if they can get permission to leave and stay in Thailand for a total of 90 days from the original visa issue date. Responses in the comments clarify that upon returning, the SETV allows for a 60-day stay, which can be extended for 30 days. To maintain this permission to stay during the trip to the UK, the user must obtain a re-entry permit before leaving.

Driven up to udon from Phuket for my wedding on Sunday . So have car up here plus accommodation booked in Vientiane . Sufficiently funded to be ok with full lock down for a few months as was considering a retirement visa . Just so much going on at the moment that having problems deviating from the planned . Think it best to just keep to current plans and add in the UK trip .

Sufficiently off topic now so going to switch off comments . Thank you everyone . At 0230 this morning when the bottom dropped out of my world I was physically shaking when I discovered what was happening . Due to a really bad nights sleeping I went on line five minutes or less from receiving the Change of Email Address email from my bank to discover my email and home address had been altered in my online banking account

But Andy Steele, why don't you just cancel your trip to Laos. You will incur a small loss but then again I'm guessing you're not going there for the wonderful attractions Vientiane has to offer. And get your SETV back in the UK. Or apply for METV.

Thanks for the quick replies . Will enter on the setv and apply for a Re entry permit . For general info RBS have lost my credit card details which used to be linked to my online banking accounts . They even told me there isn’t one linked to my home address . Everything’s in lock down at the moment

Steve Greir He's not going direct from Laos to the UK. He wants to enter Thailand and leave from here. Once he enters Thailand, his visa becomes used, so he needs a reentry permit to keep his permission of stay valid.
Steve *******
Luke, that's correct but the OP didnt mention returning to Thailand before going to the UK
Steve *******
Luke Thomas. I know that. The OP can go to the UK and return to enter Thailand within 90 days of the visa being issued and get stamped in for 60 days. It doesnt matter which consulate you get the visa from!

I have seen this being asked on ThaiVisa. My opinion is that the IO will not process him visa exempt with a valid SETV in his passport. But he can by all means ask.

Yeah - not sure if IO will allow visa exempt entry. Might need a bit of explaining at the border and a happy IO.

Are you a ) using the setv to reenter from Laos OR b ) using visa exempt entry and so keeping the setv for when you return from UK.

If a ) you'll need a reentry permit for UK trip

If b ) the visa will be valid for use for 90days from issue and no reentry permit req'd

Option b ) relies on being able to enter Thailand on a visa exempt entry - (although you'll have a valid setv in the passport just not using it / saving it for return from UK)
Luke ******
Steve Greir Yes, the visa is valid for 90 days, and once you use it to enter it becomes invalid / used. Upon entry, you receive a permission of stay of 60 days. It's the permission of stay that you apply the re-entry permit for.

Andy Steele In your situation. Before you leave for the UK, get a reentry permit (single), from local Immigration or airport, that will allow you to return within those 60 days, and once you are back, extend that permission of stay for a further 30 days at local Immigration.
Steve *******
The visa is valid for 90 days from the date of issue, where ever you go
Paul *********
When you come back from Laos your SETV will get you in for 60day, when you go back to UK whether in the first 60 (or subsequent 30 extension) you'll need a reentry permit (from airport or local immigration office) to keep the visa and it's permitted to stay date.
Luke ******
Your visa allows a permission of stay of 60 days upon entry. That is extendable for a further 30 days at immigration. If you want to keep your permission of stay valid, you must apply for a re-entry permit. You can apply for one both during the initial 60 days or while on the extension.
