I’m in Thailand with a 90-day non O but now I need to go back to the USA in June (about 135 days) and stay three to five months before returning again. So I’ll apply for a second non O visa while in the states then do all the bank and 12-month extension business here in the fall. Problem is I need to stay here a bit longer than 90 days this trip so if I leave Thailand for a few days when my 90 days are about up am I pretty certain to get a 60-day visa exempt stamp when returning? And if so, will staying 135 days this trip affect my application for a second 90-day non O visa in the fall? Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster is seeking advice on whether leaving Thailand shortly before their 90-day Non-O visa expires and returning will allow them to receive a 60-day visa exempt entry. They are concerned about potentially triggering red flags with immigration due to their stay duration and previous border runs. Responses indicate that prior immigration history may affect the ability to obtain a visa exempt stamp upon return, and some suggest applying for an extension or re-entry permit to avoid complications.

They may ask you why you didn't do an extension and re entry permit on this non O. This is what happened to me. They did let me in but warned me about doing a border run at the end of the visa exempt entry.
Peter Miller Had you done any border runs in the years prior to getting a non O? Due to plain ignorance and extenuating circumstances I did three border runs (no negative remarks or warnings) in 2025 then left Thailand for six months with more knowledge about the rules. Now I’m back with a non O but am concerned my history may prevent me from getting a 60-day exempt if I leave and return. I will definitely do a second non O in the fall and all the bank/extension business then.
90 days is 90 days so the answer is no…the purpose is to either visit family or apply for an annual extension…you soon will become a red flag to immigration trying to manipulate the original purpose of your visa…they will soon see your shell game strategy down the road
Whether or not you will have a problem getting a 60 day visa exempt entry will depend on your history in Thailand prior to your current Non-O. If you did it wouldn't impact applying for a further Non-O
Graham Seal As a wet-behind-the-ears newcomer in November of 2024 I got myself caught in a situation where I had to do a third border run (agency) in 2025. Then I left Thailand for about six months and just came back with a proper 90-day non O. My intention was to do the 800,000 in a Thai bank then 12-month extension but now I’ll be out of Thailand for three to five of those 12 months. So I’m deciding whether to do the bank/extension this trip and “waste” up to five months or restart my plan in September. 🤷
personally I'd just do the extension now and get a re-entry permit. Extensions are only 1900 baht and a re-entry permit 1000 baht. Doesn't seem a lot to take all the worry out of it
