Hey people!

So my situation is the following. I am currently on the 30 day extension of a Visa-On-Arrival. I have the documents for a Non-O Visa, but will have to leave the country for it. As I leave the country in October anyway, I would like to get my Visa done then. That means I need another extension/ Visa-on-arrival. My questions now are: 1. Can I get another visa extension for 15 days at Chiang Mai Immigration/Promenada? or 2. Can I get a Visa on arrival at Mae Sai? I know the rule currently is, to not get more then 2 Visas on arrival per year, and technically I am only on my first one...

Any ideas??

Help is much appreciated =)

TLDR : Answer Summary
The poster is currently on a 30-day extension of a Visa-on-Arrival and is inquiring about getting another extension or a Visa-on-Arrival, as they plan to leave Thailand for a NON-O Visa in October. They seek clarification on whether they can get another extension at Chiang Mai Immigration and if they can obtain a Visa-on-Arrival when crossing at Mae Sai. Several comments address the current rules regarding visa extensions and entries, emphasizing that extensions do not count towards the two 30-day visa exemption entries allowed per year. It is also noted that the poster could still use a border run to obtain an additional 30-day stamp.

Only problem is that a double entry visa not exist. You can choose from a Single Entry Tourist Visa that gives you 60 days on arrival and can extend once with 30 days at Immigration, than go abroad to neighbor country to obtain new visa. Or get the Multiple Entry Tourist Visa which is valid for 6 months and gives you on each entry 60 days of stay.

Thanks for all the help and info guys.

1 year visa still 90 day reporting to immigration
Paul ******
If I do decide to live there is there a visa available that I wouldn't have to check in with immigration so often, maybe a one year visa?

Get a multiple entry visa from your country before you come. If you want to stay here look at the elite visa some places they do the 90 day reports for you.

get a double entry visa....then extend it at immigration. ..that's 3 months sorted...then border run...you get 60 days...extend that at immigration. .for 30 days...so that's the 6 month covered

ok 60 days is single entry...

Sorry to jump into the middle of this thread but I am coming to Thailand (Chiang Mai) in November with the idea of staying 3-6 months to get an idea if I would like to live there. Would I get the 30 day visa when I arrive and them renew it every 30 days for the 3-6 months or is there another visa I should get?

Paul at a Thai Embassy or Consulate in America you can get an METV - multi entry tourist visa - life of 6 months - giving multiple 60 day stays (exit Thailand at 60th. day then reenter - get another 60 day stay) Check the requirements online at the Washington D. C. Thai Embassy.

No double or triple entry visas anymore since almost two years now.

@Paul *****
6 months all together, yes

So if I understand correctly a double entry visa gives me 2 entries, two two month extensions and two 30 day extensions.....is that correct?

@Paul *****
you get 2 months, then can go to immigration in chiang mai, get another 30 days. after that you have to cross a border, get another 2 months and extra 30 days.
Paul ******
Can I stay the full 3-6 months with the double entry or do I need to go to immigration during that time period?

Hey Paul, as far as I know is it not possible to do that anymore. I would recommend to go to a thai embassy in your home country and get a doubly entry tourist visa. I'm pretty sure these are still possible..

Be advised you can only do TWO 30 day visa exempt entries by land in a calendar year.
Tod *********
@Maul *******
nope, extensions don't count. Only visa exempt entries by land count towards the two you can do.

You'll be fine getting another 30 day stamp at Mae Sai.

So the 30 day extension doesn't count as a second 30 day visa exempt?

I am planning on going to mae sai, just wanted to make sure that I can get another stamp there.
Tod *********
You can only get an extension denied stamp for an additional 7 days for 1900baht at the immigration office

You could go to the Mae Sai - Tachiliek Border and get a 30 day visa exempt stamp for $10USD (or 500baht)
Tod *********
you could also extend that 30 day stamp by 30 more days if you needed to at the immigration office.
Tod *********
You can't possibly have a visa on arrival because you buy them when you arrive for 2000baht, they are only for 15 days and they can't be extended for 30 days.

What you have is a visa exempt entry, where you came in and were stamped in for 30 days for free, and you extended that for 30 days at the immigration office for 1900baht
