Do I need to maintain 800,000 baht for a marriage extension if I've previously held a non-O retirement extension?

I understand that after getting a non o retirement extension the 800,000 baht must remain in your account for 3 months after then not drop below 400,000.

If you wish the following year's extension to be based on marriage do you still need to bring the account back up to 800,000?

TLDR : Answer Summary
After obtaining a non-O retirement extension, the requirement is to maintain 800,000 baht in your account for 3 months, then it can drop to 400,000 baht. If you wish to switch to a marriage-based extension for the following year, you only need to have 400,000 baht in your account for 2 months prior to applying, rather than bringing the balance back up to 800,000 baht. Some immigration offices may check the 400,000 baht requirement 2 months before applying and during the approval process.

Just to add, some IO offices, Samut Prakhan for sure require the 400k 2 months before.

And a further month whilst it’s under consideration l. They check when you get the approval

You only need 400k for a marriage extension.

If you are going from retirement to marriage the 400k is to be in your account for 2 months prior to applying. You don't need 800k.

No, you don't need to have 800K baht for a 1-year extension based on marriage to a Thai. Be sure you can prepare the necessary documents for a marriage extension, if not you may have to apply for a 1-year extension based on retirement again.

don't you need to have 400k then 800k (2 months prior to expiry) in the bank to complete your existing extension ?

that's what I thought but I'm happy to hear it's not the case. Thank you Ellie.

, you only keep 400K until the end of current extension based on retirement to keep it valid. 800K for two months is for meeting requirement to apply for a new extension based on retirement, if you don't apply for it, ot you apply for it for different reason, you don't have to meet that.
