Will I get a 60-day or 30-day extension if I apply at the government building for my Thai visa?

Hi, does anybody know if I will get a 60 day visa extension if I extend at the government building, or will it be the standard 30 day extension?

I’m trying to work out if it is better to fly out of the country and get the 60 day stamp. It is more expensive, but if I get 60 days, it’ll be worth it

TLDR : Answer Summary
The community clarified that typically, extending a visa at a government building will result in a 30-day extension, while travelers with qualifying passports may receive a 60-day visa exempt stamp upon entry. Suggestions leaned towards leaving Thailand for a few days to obtain the 60-day stamp, as some extensions are limited to specific circumstances, like visiting Thai family. Discussions also touched on the number of entries allowed per year on visa exemptions, with mixed opinions on potential unlimited entries.

Another related question, does the 6 entries per calendar year still apply? As that would make it possible to stay for almost a whole year just by doing border runs

nobody can answer that for sure. At the moment there are rumors circulating that you can do an unlimited number of 60-days visa-exempt entries for the rest of your life.

You will find out how often in reality you can enter Thailand on consecutive visa-exempt entries, when you stand in front of the Immigration officer who will decide over this

Looks like a visa run is the best option then. Thanks everyone

The only 60 day extension is for visiting thai family. Tourists get 30 days

As at this point in time if you enter visa exempt 60day stay extension of that 60 day stay at immigration remains 30 days chokh di

Extension will be 30days, not 60days from immigration office assuming your on an exempt stamp.

Leave for a few days and come back to get 60

Don’t have to be days, can be minuts, if you haven’t done it several times before.

is there a minimum turnaround time? Can I leave the country and return on the same day? I’m just thinking about saving money on hotels and unnecessary taxis

Be sure to get stamped in at the other country, they want to see that you went someplace else and spent a few days exploring some tourist trap

places like Singapore don’t even stamp with the e-gates. Are you making things up as you go?

Thai immigration knows when you left Thailand last time they don’t care about other stamps boy

if you return on the same day you are trying to live here on a tourist visa and they will take you to a room and question you about that. If your passport is full of Thailand tourist visa & visa exception stamps they may deny entry.

You don't say what visa you are on or what extension you would be applying for.

A tourism extension is 30 days. If you have a passport that qualifies for visa exempt, you'll receive a 60 day visa exempt stamp when you enter the country.

I have a EU Danish Passport so I quess I Will Qualify for a 60 day tourist visa.

I Will be in Thailand for 88 days so should I get the 30 extension in Chiang Mai or here in Denmark ??
Kenneth ***********
I am retired and 70 so I Will see if I can get a 90 day non-0 visa from our Thai Embassy here in Denmark.

Thank you for info.

Last year I got 30 days tourist Visa and an extra 30 days for 1,900 Bath electronicly on the net, then I got 30 day extension at the emigrations office n Chiang Mai, but I am trying to avoid the emigrations office in Chiang Mai because it took all day and it was very hot.

unless you're over 50 years old and qualify for a 90 day non-O visa from your Thai embassy, the longest you can enter for as a tourist is 60 days. Then you would have to apply for an extension for 30 days.

@Kenneth **********
If that is where your TM30 is filed that is where you must go

@Kenneth **********
you cannot get an extension in Denmark. You can only get an extension from an immigration office

sorry, I’m just on a tourist visa. I flew into the country to be with my girlfriend in May and have extended my visa by 30 days already. We are hoping to start a business together and once we start making money, I will look into making my stay a bit more permanent, but for now I am just looking for the cheapest and easiest way to stay in the country

@Jay ****
you cannot get a second extension
