TLDR : Answer Summary
After returning to Thailand and receiving a 30-day entry stamp, the individual is inquiring whether it is possible to extend this stay for another 30 days without exiting the country. The discussion includes insights from users about extending entry stamps, experiences with immigration procedures, concerns regarding stamp ink colors, and the importance of holding the correct visa for their intended stay.

I guess it is discussed enough. There is a difference in living in Thailand and being a tourist. It is the job from Immigration Officers at checkpoints to check who and on what permission you can enter Thailand. And they sometimes deny people entry, sometimes to go into question with visitors just to find out what is the purpose of your stay and do you use the correct visa for that. It sounds maybe very strange to some of you, but this is the job from every Immigration in every country. Make sure that you have the visa that suits your purpose to stay.

You can apply for an extension at immigration from the first day of entry. So if you try to do that asap at least you will know, should be a formality though. They will give you 30 days from the date of expiry IE from 9th January .

bangkok, chiang mai, phuket and buriram allow you to get an extension when you have 45 days or less left on your current stamp, most offices are 30 or less and some are 15 or less
Kev ******
First time ive heard of that, ive done mine in Bkk and Jomtien immigration and was told by the officers you can do it anytime from the first day you get stamped in.
Tod *********
careful with that broad brushing. NOT every immigration office allows you to apply for an extension when you have 30 days or less left on your current stamp, SOME will only do it when you have 15 days or less

you should be able to get the 30 day extension just fine at the immigration office.

You sure picked a BAD border to come in on visa exempt though.

I guess with living on Koh Phangan, you must have a longer history of living inside Thailand using Tourist Visa and Visa Exempt entries. It is time to get organized and get yourself the visa for the purpose you live inside Thailand. You can apply for an Extension of Stay for another 30 days.

now I’m here as a tourist but if I decide to live here for 2-3 years or more the investment visa makes sense to me and as you said I can buy a condo and stay in it, it’s time to save money for some years then 👍

You need money to live, and if you have enough money set aside then an investment visa would be the way to do it. It'll cost you 3M THB, and you can use it to buy a Condo, and as long as you have the condo, you have the visa. Plus, you can live in the condo too, the last time I check. Win-win, I think.

I’m aware of some of those options, but those on retirement visa or are married, don’t need to work or attend classes which makes it easier to do whatever day want here... there are no visa for those under 50/not married to a thai for only living here like the retirement visa, you have to do something, but the elite visa 20year costs 1 million baht I think, so that’s one option.

@Magnus ***************
There are a lot of options:

1. Working remotely in information technology - iGlu is a company to contact.

2. Getting a job in Thailand, and using a Non-B.

3. Inventing 3M THB, and getting an investment visa.

4. Qualifying for a SMART visa (see

5. Elite visa

6. Volunteering

7. Learning Thai, or Thai kickboxing

All of those options show you're able to provide a value to Thai society, and make their country better by either dumping a lot of money into their economy, or making an improvement to their country.

@Robert ******
limited options for those under 50 that are not married to a thai..

Over 50/ married, easy stay.

If they could simply introduce new types of visa for those that fell into that category things will be different.
