I am from the U.S. and I am currently in Chiang Mai but I will be traveling for a few weeks in Taiwan. When I come back I want to apply in country for the Non O based on being over 50. I know I can do that on a 30-day visa waiver (it was discussed in the comments on a recent post) and that I will need to have sufficient days remaining for the under consideration period (I believe 21 days for Chiang Mai?) Unfortunately, for some tax reasons, I don't want to bring in the 800k to my Thai bank account this calendar year, which means I would not have enough days to apply for the Non O if I understand the situation correctly (because I fly back to Chiang Mai on 12/18). My question is, can I apply for a 30 day extension of the visa waiver entry and then apply for the Non O or will I need to leave the country and enter again? Alternatively, can/should I apply for a tourist visa while I am in Taiwan? I wouldn't mind doing that if the eVisa is an option but I would rather not waste sightseeing time visiting a consulate/embassy there to apply in person.
TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, currently in Chiang Mai, is seeking information on applying for a Non O visa after returning from Taiwan. They know they can use a 30-day visa waiver but are concerned about the timing and financial requirements. The conversation reveals that they can apply for a 30-day extension on their visa waiver and then proceed with the Non O application, as long as they have enough business days remaining on their entry stamp. Alternatively, the user considers applying for a tourist visa in Taiwan but learns that there is no eVisa option available, requiring an in-person application.
