TLDR : Answer Summary
A German citizen can initially enter Thailand for 30 days without a visa. It is possible to extend this stay by obtaining an additional 30-day extension at the immigration office for a fee of 1,900 baht. This allows for a total stay of 60 days in Thailand.

In the UK, it is much cheaper to get a single entry tourist visa (£25) that gives you 60 days on entry rather than the extension (£43), also it saves having to waste any time going to immigration.
