Can I Extend My 30-Day Visa Exemption Immediately After a Border Hop to Mai Sai?

Hi guys, I'd appreciate your advice once again please 😁 I'm trying to plan ahead. Question is as follows: If I do a border hop at Mai sai and get a 30 day visa exempt, can I go straight to Chiang mai Immigration and extend my stay or is there a minimum period before I can extend. I've read that in places like Pattaya for example, they will only extend in the last few days before the Visa exempt expires.
