My kids will arrive in Thailand on 7 July with "visa exemption". And plan to stay for a total of 50 days.

I understand that the 30-day arrival stamp can be extended for another 30 days.

When is the best time to extend - will they give 30-days from day extension is requested, or 30 days added to original expiry date?

Do I need to make an appointment, most likely will visit the Khon Kaen immigration office?

Thanks !

Answer summary

The user seeks information regarding visa extension for their children arriving in Thailand on a visa exemption. They want to know the best time to apply for the extension, how long the extension will last, and whether an appointment is necessary at the Khon Kaen immigration office. Responses clarify that the extension adds 30 days to the current stamp and suggest applying 30-45 days before the current expiration. Making an appointment is recommended but not mandatory.

You will get 30 days added to your existing stamp, regardless of when you apply for the extension.

It's always worth making an appointment, in my experience at other immigration offices. Best to print off the confirmation and take with. Thailand loves a paper trail. You can make the appointment here...

30days tourism extension will be ADDED to the current stamp. How long before the local Immigration office accepts the application does vary with each IO. Some allow 45days, some 30days. Some offices accept the application only 1 week before the expiry.

You don't have to make an appointment, but you can. It may save your time if you are going to use busy IO.

Attached is general information for tourism extension.

The appointment site is here.
