How can I extend my kids' visa exemption in Thailand after 30 days?

My kids will arrive in Thailand on 7 July with "visa exemption". And plan to stay for a total of 50 days.

I understand that the 30-day arrival stamp can be extended for another 30 days.

When is the best time to extend - will they give 30-days from day extension is requested, or 30 days added to original expiry date?

Do I need to make an appointment, most likely will visit the Khon Kaen immigration office?

It's always worth making an appointment, in my experience at other immigration offices. Best to print off the confirmation and take with. Thailand loves a paper trail. You can make the appointment here...

30days tourism extension will be ADDED to the current stamp. How long before the local Immigration office accepts the application does vary with each IO. Some allow 45days, some 30days. Some offices accept the application only 1 week before the expiry.

You don't have to make an appointment, but you can. It may save your time if you are going to use busy IO.
