I arrived in Thailand with a 30 day stamp and now want to extend it to get 30 more days. The woman at the immigration office (hua hin) told me I can get only 7 days extension. Is that true?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The ability to extend a 30-day entry stamp in Thailand depends largely on your nationality. For nationals from certain countries like Russia, only a 7-day extension is typically permitted. To potentially secure a longer extension, it may be necessary to obtain a letter from your embassy. Generally, the extension process can be uncertain, as it varies by immigration office, and some travelers report being able to secure extensions of up to 30 days, while others are limited to just 7 days.

Well back in March 10 you could go to any immigration office and get your stamps (I did in Kalasin immigration March 😎
Tourist can. Long stay visa holders can only get extensions at the immigration office where they live.

I went yesterday to Matuphut (rayong). Took all the docs plus embassy letter, map, photo of mevin front of room....etc all got acceoted then i get the PP - 7 days!
Lady told me to come back in 7 days, then i started questioning asto why not 30? She started rambling in Tinglish about how they had to send docs to bkk then she gave me a phone number and said to call then on the 7th day!
So im hploping its as done as other posts ive seen, where you go and they give you the remaining time.... it wasn't so busy (about 200 passed through) but still a den of Covid! Anyway its crazy to go there and risk spreading it. Plus for me i dont hv int drive licence. I get stopped on moto then i can't continue right? How do i getvthere? No buses or minivans ... taxi will be god knows what....
If i go here and they dont extend im immeidiately on overstay?! Ha hs they gonna arrest me?...
- excellelent answer and I think thats exactkyvl what they're doing and how it will work. I went 2 weeks early cos my mate gave me a lift the 60k to Mattaput. My normal 30 day extyn finishes on 13th - they gave me till 21st....so all ties in with what you said. Ill just go to the (Covid factory) ahhemmm immigration. Hope not to be fucked and they've given the amnesty by then. Cheers....be safe....
my understanding is that for covid ext. the stamp is 20 days from date you put in yr app. Regardless of actual end date of your current visa/ext..
Because this is just a processing time stamp. Unlike regular ext. Local officers don't have the authority to make that call on the spot, all apps are sent to Bkk immi HQ for approval. Then decision sent back to yr IO. Because yr current visa or ext will likely have expired in the meantime, this also grants you the right to remain in thailand while they make up their mind...
On the day it says on yr stamp u go back to find out.
If yr denied, you're fucked. But that's unlikely.
If yr approved, you'll get 30 days from yr previous visa expiry stamp, and have to come back after yr however many days left for another round of this shit.
Or maybe, just maybe, by then and some kind of miracle, they'll have come to their senses finally and put an end to this absurd circus, like reports keep hinting they're considering doing, and most other countries have done already,..or at least give us a break til this c19 mess is tamed..
Brit....non exempt 30 day, already done a 30 day extension. So that was my Covid extn attempt with embassy letter.

You could get the "unable to travel due to covid-19" letter from your consulate here and then go apply for the emergency extension for up to 30 days. They WILL do that with the embassy letter
the embassy won't give you the letter .I've asked for one and they said I don't need as I am in the same situation as this guy .

Hong Kong, Laos, Macao, Mongolia, Russia & Vietnam get 30 day visa WAIVER entries NOT 30 day visa exempt entries like people from 51 countries do. They can ONLY get a 7 day "application for extension denied" 7 days to get out of thailand stamp NOT a 30 day extension
