Hi,

I have a multi entry ED visa which will expire 1st May. I would like to fly out of Thailand around the middle of May.

Is there any reason I can’t leave the country at Mae Sai and get a 30 day Visa exempt? Will I have to have a flight booked already to show them? I am from the UK. I’ve never had a tourist visa before / visa exempt before. Is there any reason why specific land borders won’t let me do that? I guess I can go to Laos but that would be a huge hassle.

Also, do I have to cancel my current visa as I will be coming back on a new ED multi entry from London (hopefully). Bit confused about the cancelling requirement and procedure.

Thanks very much for any help

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks clarification on leaving Thailand with a multi-entry ED visa at Mae Sai, following which they wish to enter on a 30-day visa exemption. They inquire about the need for a flight ticket and potential restrictions at land borders, as well as the process of canceling their current visa before reapplying for a new one in London.

Curious to know which border crossings wont allow a 30 day visa exempt entry for UK citizens

Daniel Parish Yeah I know, I do it every 90 days, was just wondering why the OP mentioned that as a UK citizen there were border crossing he couldnt use. Laos/Cambodia are great but I go by car

also you can leave and go to Laos. By bus and back same day. I did it but I wouldn’t recommend it.

all the land borders will do 30 day visa exempt entries for UK people BUT some land borders won't let people on ED visa extensions bounce out and back in until they've canceled the extension at their immigration office.

That's why I was trying to find out if they were on the 90 day entries from a valid multi-entry visa or on an extension of stay.

Ahh, Good (y) then if you're from a country that can get a 30 day visa exempt entry, you should have no problem stamping out, canceling that stamp then stamping back in on a 30 day visa exempt entry.

I would take a letter from your school stating you are no longer studying as of the date you're going to bounce out and back in.

There have been reports of people not being allowed to stamp out of the country without it.

And when is the expiration date of the VISA? Or are you on the last 90 day entry that takes you to 15 months of stay?
Tod *********
That's the visa that you leave the country every 90 days on right OR did you get an extension at the immigration office
