Ive just purchased a bike (with green book). I'm only here on a tourist visa, would it be possible to change it to my name? If it's not possible or it's too much hassle we can change it to my girlfriend's name, but if it's not difficult I'll have it in mine.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The process of changing the ownership of a motorcycle purchased in Thailand while on a tourist visa is indeed possible but requires specific documentation. You will need a certificate of residency from your embassy or Thai immigration, proof of address, transfer agreement, the vehicle book, your passport, and payment. It might be easier to have the motorcycle transferred to a local partner's name if you're unable to gather these documents, although this comes with its own risks. Consulting a local motorcycle shop could simplify the process, as they are familiar with the necessary paperwork.

The most difficult part is often getting all the docs required from the seller. If you can't get them, you haven't bought your girlfriend a bike, you've just given someone some money and borrowed their bike.

At least the guy now knows he has bought his girlfiend a new bike .most guys dont find out that untill much later

Make sure you have the paperwork signed by previous owner - if it's too much hassle to change into your name - just keep it in previous name till you sell or store it.

Make the deal at some Motorbike Shop. They have all documents there and will charge you for the service only a few bucks. Only thing you have to care yourself about, it's the prove of residence from Immigration. That's a 10 minutes-job only.

depends. Yes if you are the owner it is a 10 minutes job. If not lot of paperwork or not possible at all.
