TLDR : Answer Summary
The consensus among community members is that you cannot extend a one-year retirement visa at the airport immigration office in Thailand. Extensions must be done at the provincial immigration office corresponding to your residence. Some commented on the availability of services at the immigration office located near the Chiang Mai airport, clarifying it provides full immigration services, unlike typical airport immigration offices that only handle entry and exit stamps.

you have to use the main immigration office near the airport. I suggest you go to the immigration office before preparing the paperwork. Requirements vary from one office to another and from year to year.
I'd guess one of the Chiang Mai immigration offices. You'll likely need to file a tm30 when you arrive in the area and then go for the extension

No. Only immigration office where you live

No .. ( well even if they did you’d have to go back to the airport the next day anyway to collect it , longer if you did it on a Friday ) but I’ve never heard of airport immigration doing anything like that .

Airports do not have immigration offices. They can't do anything except stamp people in and out of Thailand and sell re-entry permits on the day of travel.
(Unless you're talking about Chiang Mai where the immigration office near the airport is known as the "airport immigration office" and then yes that office is the main office in Chiang Mai and offers all services)
I'm relocating soon from Phrae to Chiang Mai. Can you tell me how many immigration offices are there in Chiang Mai.. Also which office is easier to do a one year retirement extension. Thanks
there's only 2, one near the airport that's the main office and one at central mall that's a satellite office. I've only ever used the one near the airport so I don't know what services are offered at the mall office.
