Can I convert my Thai retirement visa from single entry to multiple entry after leaving the country?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some advice regarding my Thai retirement visa.

My current retirement visa is valid until June 2026 but it’s a single entry. I had to leave Thailand in August to return to the UK due to a family emergency, but I’ll be arriving back in Thailand next week.

Is it at all possible to change this to a multiple entry visa, and if so, what steps would I need to take?

Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster seeks advice on changing their Thai retirement visa from a single entry to multiple entry after having left Thailand without a re-entry permit. Responses from the community indicate that if the single entry visa was left inactive upon exiting Thailand, they must apply for a new 90-day Non-O visa and could later extend it to a one-year multiple entry for an additional fee. Obtaining a re-entry permit upon return is advised to keep the visa active.

check AXA retiree expat health insurance and understand that pre-existing medical conditions are not always covered. And when they are covered you’ll have to pay a lot. I know some expats who have an insurance from OOM and they must pay about

Just go to immigration and buy a re entry permit as you need them.

Too late, should have gotten a re-entry permit before you left the country.....that single entry visa is now over, regardless of the original expiration date. Best thing you can do now it start over with a new 90 day non O, then get a new one year extension after you arrive and add multiple entry for an extra 4000 baht fee....then you're safe to leave and return any time you want during the entire 15 months.

You need to obtain re entry permit at the immigration passport control counter at airport. They will direct you to another counter nearby to purchase the re entry permit. Do not cross passport control until you have purchased the permit.

So you do have a re-entry permit (not visa) for your return to maintain your current extension. Just get another one for November after you return.

You can go to immigration and get either a multi entry for 2800 baht , or single entry permit for 1000 baht when you return . On the Tm8 application form just tick which you require .

You will need : the tm8 form . Your passport , a passport photo , a copy of your passports main page , your last entry page and visa page , plus the fee in cash .

It will only be valid till your extension in June runs out .

You get a re entry permit from immigration. It keeps your visa active.
