Can my friend on an exemption visa in Thailand change to a non-immigrant visa for volunteering or studying?
Hi to all. I am asking for a friend. He wants to come into the country with an exemp visa. He is from European Union. Would he be able to alter his visa to a non emmigrant visa such as a volunteer or a student visa inside the country? Also would he have right to apply to an extenaion due to covid? Thank you.
Answer summary
A friend from the European Union wants to enter Thailand on an exemption visa and inquires about changing to a non-immigrant visa for volunteering or studying. It is suggested that he cannot change to a volunteer visa without contacting a specific organization, but he can switch to a student visa, provided he studies full-time. However, he will not be able to apply for a COVID-related extension as the deadline for such applications has passed.

Probably not; he'll have to contact a volunteer organization.
>or a student visa inside the country
Yes he can. However, he will be expected to study full time. He can either get a degree from a university, or study Thai language for a year.
>Also would he have right to apply to an extenaion due to covid?
No, the last day the 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19 is being sold is May 29. I am not going to guess if they will extend this extension of not.

From the Thai viewpoint; there is no country called the "European Union". What passport country dos your friend have?
