Hey guys, so am I correct in that it looks like volunteer visas (without actually volunteering) are basically no longer useful/available?
My current one is expiring in mid-January.
Any tips on other options to extend?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion addresses the current status of volunteer visas in Thailand, indicating they may no longer be useful or available for extensions without actual volunteering. A user mentions their volunteer visa is expiring soon and seeks alternatives. Comments provide information on obtaining a COVID-19 extension and transitioning to different visa types, including suggestions to switch to a 'Special' tourist visa or a standard 60-day visa, with the involvement of an agent for assistance.
I went from Volunteer to Covid visa. My agent handled it for me and cost me too much money.
I am shopping for new visa options myself. It looks like I will go back to my home country and either come back on a "Special" tourist visa, or come back on a 60 day visa and extend.. Hoping boarders will be open in the next couple of months.
For what its worth, currently, my agent is doing a Hail Mary to try to get a volunteer visa, but I am skeptical.
I DOUBT you can go from a B/S volunteer visa where you handed an agent a bunch of money to a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19. The agent would need to submit the paperwork to cancel the volunteer visa, and then to get you on a 60 day extension of stay.
Thank you Bobby. Seems like a good solution for the short-term, but not quite ideal for longtime, as I assume there's no way of really knowing if I'd be able to extend it again after that. Right?
Justin Tilton. Actually if you're on a bogus volunteer visa, you'll have to leave the country anyway when it expires, so whilst you're out of the country get an STV which will do you for nine months
Justin Tilton. Who knows? Immigration are certainly clamping down on these extensions so I'd say their time is limited. Elite Visa is probably the only long term option until you reach 50, then it's easy.
