You would cancel your work permit, take documentation that states you're stopping working on xxx date along with the documentation to meet the requirements to get a yearly extension based on being over 50 (retirement) to the immigration office

They would cancel your extension based on employment and you would immediately apply for a new yearly extension based on being over 50 (retirement).

My current contract expires on the 15th of October and my funds Mature on the 4th of October. Is that sufficient time.

totally workable, but tight. You'll need all the documentation (bank letter, bank book updated, TM30, etc) for the retirement extension when you go to cancel your current extension based on employment.
