TLDR : Answer Summary
The process of changing from a retirement visa to a marriage visa in Thailand is possible, but it involves careful steps. First, you'll need to cancel your current Extension of Stay related to the retirement visa. After cancellation, you can apply for a new Extension of Stay under the marriage visa, ensuring you have all necessary documentation prepared. It's advisable to consult with your local Immigration Office to confirm requirements and prevent any risk of overstaying.

I've been through this process the only issue (other than the extra paperwork) is that the imm office was not keen to do it (try to put us off) but it was ok in the end.

You can change the reason from your Extension of Stay, but be aware first you cancel your current Extension of Stay and than you apply for a new Extension of Stay, you must have all the documents in order. If you miss documents and need to come back next day you will be in overstay. Best is to visit your Immigration Office and ask the hand out with all the requirements and let them check if you got all before you start the process.

As both visa's mentioned does not even exist in Thailand it is hard to tell. Are you inside Thailand on a Visa that you bought at a Thai Embassy or Consulate or are you inside Thailand on an Extension of Stay, a stamp that you got from Immigration Office. Here the difference in looks:
