Thanks for all your advice.. you guys are a great help.
I have a question... I am currently on a Non O visa (child dependent) which expires in about 4 months or so. However, I would like to change it to a one year ED visa when the time comes. Is it possible without leaving the country?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about the possibility of transitioning from a Non O visa tied to their child's dependency status to a one-year ED (education) visa without exiting Thailand. The conversation emphasizes the importance of consulting an educational institution for specific guidance on visa regulations related to the child's school status.

You need to be talking to a school not asking on the thai visa advice group. They are the only one that is gonna say if you can go from an extension based on raising a half thai child to either an ED visa or just change the reason for your extension to education.
there is no 'seasoning' on the funds required to get a year extension based on raising a half thai child (or no official one no matter what offices say) AND there is no requirement you keep that 400K baht in the bank a second past the time you get your extension granted. You could pull it right out the day you had the year extension inked in and your extension would still be good for a whole year..
