Can I convert my DTV to Non-B visa while in Thailand?

Hello, I’ve been on a DTV for around 7 months but have now gotten a job opportunity, I’m wondering if anyone has any experience converting the DTV to Non B within Thailand, my lawyer seems to think I need to do a border bounce and come back on visa exempt to then convert it, but I’ve read that you can convert it from a DTV as it’s technically a multiple entry visa… Let me know, thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on converting their DTV visa to a Non-B visa due to a job opportunity. Responses suggest that while it's possible to convert a DTV to a Non-B within Thailand, some believe a border bounce may be required. It's emphasized that the user should consult with their local immigration office for guidance, as different interpretations of the law exist and specific procedures may apply.

You cannot leave and return on visa exempt because you have a valid multiple entry visa. If you leave and return you'll just be stamped in on your DTV.

The law that created the DTV specifically says it can be converted to another visa type inside Thailand. You'll need to check with your local immigration office to find out details and their willingness to do so.

You need to leave and apply for a non b in Thai embassy. You work needs to give you the paperwork you apply non b 3 months when you come back your employer the applies for 9 month extension in Thailand local immagration followed by your work permit at labour dept

Better to check with immigrstions but I am assuming that you will need to change visas because they will be your legitimate reason for long stay. Some companies will do the application for a work visa and it will be pegged to the company while some may insist that the employee does all the process by themselves. But in most cases that I know, even if you have approval and a new visa from within the country, you will still need to do a border bounce to stamp out of the old visa and in with the new.

Jist noticed about the border bounce and come back on Visa Exempt. How is that possible as you will be stamped in on the DTV as it is still active and not cancelled. I tried same with O and no chance. Had to have it cancelled by issuing office.

An employee cannot do it themselves. An employee cannot apply to the Ministry of Labour for the initial WP3 application. It is the employers responsibility. This along with other company documents is then taken apply for the initial Non-B. The company must supply all of their documentation to the employee to apply for the B. When the B is issued it is back to Ministry of Labour for the WP and then the B is extended.

I was on an O with a multiple re-entry permit. To get a B I had to leave the country and get the B at an Embassy. As other have said. Ask immigration if they will convert in country.

DTV is issued by MFA, not immigration so it's a difficult one. Enquire first at immigration and see what they say. You might have to get the issuing embassy to cancel it

Anonymous participant 692 This is what I suspect. Will be very interesting to have clarity.

Better to ask to immigration office

Anonymous participant 855 I second this. Every office follows its own rules so you better check with the one you're going to apply with
