Can I change my OA retirement visa to an O visa while in Thailand?

you can do it by air or land (land borders wtih all countries except burma are open) BUT remember you need an approved thai pass to get back in and you need to show 10K USD in health insurance for 30 days

honestly IF I knew I had the 800K already in the bank ready to go, I'd just come back visa exempt and high tail it roght over to the immigration office and apply for the in country Non-O visa for 2000baht

I wouldn't even screw around with getting the 90 day Non-O at a thai consulate or even a tourist visa I'd just bounce out and back in to wipe the slate clean, get on a 30 day stamp and go from there.

I mean worst case he comes in visa exempt, can't get it together fast enough and has to take the one 30 day extension you're allowed for 1900baht to by more time, that's 2 months and should be more than enough time

I'm planning also to finish the O-A . So I'm leaving for holidays in Germany and I will come back on Non-O visa and then applying for extension based income/affidavit here in Phuket.

ahh that's different if you can snap up a single entry 90 day Non-O in your country before you come back (and it's not too much hoop jumping) that's the way to go because you cut 2 steps out of the whole process (applying for the in coutnry Non-0 and then going back to get it inked in after the review period).

BUT

If someone is doing it around here in S/E Asia, especially if they meet the requirements already, I'd say just bounce out and back in on a 30 day visa exempt entry and get after it
