If you were a 54 year old UK citizen with 1 mill baht in a Thai bank account married to a Thai woman , would you go after a non o visa thru retirement or marriage ?

Was thinking that if you have the choice , the 90 day and annual extension of the retirement visa makes it a better option .

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around whether a 54-year-old UK citizen, with 1 million baht in a Thai bank account and married to a Thai woman, should opt for a Non-O visa through retirement or marriage. Comments highlight that both visa types have similar requirements for extensions once established, but the marriage visa involves more documentation and a longer processing period, while the retirement visa can be issued on the spot. Additionally, there are considerations regarding the financial requirements and the reporting obligations tied to each visa type.

It's 6 for one half a dozen for the other. The marriage extension would take a LOT more documentation and go under consideration for 30 days before you went back to get the extension stamped in your passport.

The extension based on being over 50 would be issued on the spot

Extension of Stay based on marriage has less financial requirements but the 90 day reporting and annual extensions are the same,if you stay married.

, Not a problem, I just wanted you to know that if you get a yearly extension at the immigration office the only differences between marriage and retirement are the financial ones and the 30 day under consideration part for the marriage extension.

I did not leave Thailand since Aug 2015, I stay here on Extensions of Stay based on Marriage. I do report every 90 days at Immigration Office.

@An**
, you are confusing a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa that you get from a thai consulate in another country based on being married to a thai with a yearly extension of stay based on marriage that you get at the immigration office.

You get the visa out of the country you border-bounce, you get the extension in the country you do 90 day reporting.

Thanks had thought the visa thru marriage required a border bounce , while the visa thru retirement is moving to being done on line
