Hi...

This may seem like a stupid question...

I have been working and living in Thailand for the last 15 years. I have had a work permit for the last 10 years. I'm leaving my job and will need some time to find a new one or decide what I want to do next. I have the 20000 to show but I don't have a on going ticket because I live here.

I guess I'm looking to get a 60 tourist Visa which would give me enough time to dicide.

Do you think I will have any problems?

Thanks in advance for any help....

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, a long-term expat in Thailand, is seeking advice on transitioning from a work visa to a 60-day tourist visa after resigning from their job. They express concern about not having an onward ticket, but believe they have enough financial proof to support their application. Community responses suggest that obtaining a tourist visa should be possible, especially given the user's history of residing and working in Thailand, but caution about the need to cancel their work permit and non-B visa before applying.

please, 39 million tourist enter Thailand and the majority of them using an airplane. Why we start to give advice avoid airports, only use land borders?

I keep on telling and refuse to change my point of view due to a few abusers of visa rules, there is nothing to worry. You have a legit history to stay inside Thailand, you lived and worked with a work permit. There is none of those back to back tourist visa and visa exempt entry users that come even near your history, NOT used a Tourist visa over 10 years, sounds different than I have 5 Tourist Visa in the last 2 years and i live in Thailand and i work but only serve foreigners.

first of all, do not forget to cancel your WP and non b visa before you leave or you risk a lot of problems and serious ones while applying for a new WP and getting a Non B Visa extension for that. After these, fly out and return with a 30 day visa exemption which you can extend it another 30 days at any immigration. that makes 60 days. you can buy a cheap ticket out of Thailand to show and dont risk that. get a 1500 baht ticket. if you still couldnt find a job after 60 days, then go to Phnom Penh for applying to a single entry tourist visa. easy there with some travel agencies and you dont even need to go to the consulate for the application, they handle. good luck.

Here's my opinion:

1. If at all possible, don't fly out. The best strategy for an American is to use a land based border that will not let you leave unless they can have you return. I know the Kanchanburi/ Htee Kee, Myanmar border is the one nearest to Thailand. If you're entering Thailand from another country, use a land border; going by air may result in being returned back to the home country.

2. For the visa, I haven't heard too many people getting a visa from PP; most usually go to HCMC, Vientiane/ Savannakhet, or KL/ Peang.

3. Using a refundable ticket is valid, BUT using a website to generate a fake ticket is a great way to attract trouble.

Thanks Colin.... Did you do it in Loas?

Yes you can, I've done this on a couple of occasions, and then when I got a new job and WP I got a new one year O visa.
Robert *******
why do you need a job to have the one year Non Immigrant O visa, i guess based on being married to a Thai National?

i would say avoid Vientiane and Savannakhet as those places are visited by lots of people applying for back to back tourists visa's.

Visit Yangon, Kota Barhu, Kuala Lumpur or Penang.

I was thinking about using one of those Visa-run companies to Loas...

Do you advise against that?

I believe you are not out of anything of trying to get a new tourist visa from Vientiane. At worse, you'll be denied, and you'll get a 30 day visa exempt when you return to Thailand. You can get two 30 day visa exempts each calendar year, and each one can be extended once by another 30 days for 1,900 THB. It'll give you a total of 120 days inside Thailand.

As you had Non Immigrant B visa and Extensions of Stay based on working inside Thailand as history I do not see a big problem to get a Tourist Visa to buy some time to look for a new job. The issues we read is applications from people using the Tourist Visa or Visa Exempt Entry back to back to cover years of living inside Thailand.

To get a new visa, you'd have to leave the country. I doubt you can get a new visa because you lived here before.

What is your nationality? Certain countries qualify for a 30 day visa exempt, others qualify for a visa on arrival, and yet others require a visa from their home country.
