If I’m due for a visa extension (TR) on 17 Jan, is it too early for me to go to immigration to do my renewal on 5th Jan?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about the possibility of renewing their TR visa on January 5th, while it is due for extension on January 17th. The comments clarify that it depends on the immigration office's policy, with most allowing extensions up to 30 days before the due date. It is indicated that since the renewal is 12 days ahead, it should be permissible.

Also just to add, the 30 day extensions are added to the time you're currently stamped in for, so 30 day from Jan 17th reguardless of when you apply for it so there's no benefit of waiting until the last day.

Depends on the office you use. Most allow 30 days, some more. I believe Koh Samui and a couple of others only allow 15 days, but as yours is 12 days from the 5th you should be good to go.
