TLDR : Answer Summary
You can typically apply for a visa extension at Thai immigration when you have 30 days or less remaining on your TR visa. However, some immigration offices, such as those in Chiang Mai, Bangkok, Buriram, Phuket, and Chiang Rai, may allow applications even when there are 45 days left on your current stamp.

most of other immigration offices would let you apply for an extension when you have 30days or less.

It depends on the immigration office.

Chiang Mai, Bangkok, Buriram, Phuket, Chiang Rai and a couple other ones (Surat Thani/Samui maybe) all allow people to apply for extensions when they have 45 days or less left on their current stamp.
