Can I apply for a Thai DTV visa while living in Colombia?

Hey Guys

Was curious if there would be any major issue with applying for the DTV while in living in Colombia. 

My home country is the U.S. but I won’t be traveling back before I go. Was just thinking ab using a VPN for submission. 

Side note, I’ll be at JFK for a few hours for a layover when going to Thailand, so was curious if you guys think I should apply then. FYI I leave for the 2nd of November, but will actually arrive in Thailand on the 7th as I’m doing another trip beforehand. Am just a bit concerned as I heard (but am not sure) that the DTV needs to be fully approved before I arrive. Is that true? 

What do you guys recommend?

Also, is it fine if I put in Airbnb details for my place of stay for the DTV?

You have to apply in the country that's your home country or you have permanent legal residency. You should remain there till it's approved. Lying on the application is not advised.

Unless you have a right of permanent residence in Colombia there would be a problem. If you don't you would need to travel back to the US and apply via whichever consulate covers your location. You would also need an FBI police clerk certificate in order to apply. You can't use a VPN to mask your location, providing a false location could result in you being blacklisted. Consulates have various different methods of verifying your location including inviting you in for interview. You're also meant to remain until the visa process completes

ok ty and no I don’t have permanent residence in Colombia. I already have the FBI thing done as well. With these issues would you recommend the education visa instead? If so can that be done while in Thailand?

I wouldn't recommend an ED visa unless you actually plan to attend the school you sign up with and study. These visas are heavily scrutinised now and immigration requires that the school report your attendance records every 3 months in order to keep getting the 90 day extensions. If your under 50 there's really no easy way to spend an extended time in Thailand other than the DTV or the Thai Privilege (Elite) visa.
