What should I expect on the final day of my Non-O visa application process in Thailand?

Quick question about my Non-O (retirement) visa application.

I entered Thailand on a 60-day tourist visa, planning to convert it to a Non-O retirement visa at Samui Immigration since I already have a local bank account with the 800k seasoned.

When I showed up, they made me get a 30-day extension first—even though I still had over three weeks left on my original tourist visa. Obviously, you don’t argue with immigration, so I just went with the flow.

Once I got the extension, they let me apply for the Non-O a week later. I handed in all the paperwork (which was a bit of a hassle, but we got there) and did the home visit with the mobile immigration officer. As far as I can tell, everything went smoothly.

Here’s the catch: They told me to come back for the actual visa stamp on the very last day of my 30-day extension. When I asked if there was any way to check the status before then, they brushed it off. I really don't want to run the risk of finding out my application was denied on the exact day my current permission to stay expires. That would leave me in a massive jam.

Has anyone dealt with this before? Maybe this is normal procedure? Any advice is appreciated!
Answer summary
The questioner is seeking clarity on the final steps for obtaining a Non-O (retirement) visa after beginning the process with a tourist visa. They successfully completed a required home visit and have concerns about checking the application status before the visa stamp appointment, which is set for the last day of their current extension. Community responses reassure that this process is normal, emphasizing that applications for Non-O visas are generally accepted without issues once documentation is submitted and fees paid.

Why did you enter with a Tourist Visa not with the Non-O Visa? You just made things more difficult for yourself as you found. It also means your extension will now always fall in the middle of peak season, a busy time at Immigration.

This is something I have seen several times at the Samui office, which is one of those renegade offices like the one on the Island of Misfit Toys (aka Koh Phangan)

They make you take the 30-day extension on your free stamp entry then they let you apply for the 90-day Nom-O.

Then they tell you do not come back until that 30-day extension expires because that's the day they will ink in the Non-O visa and give you the new 90 day stamp.

Dial the paranoia back just a notch or three :). IF they took your documentation, took your 2000baht, did the home visit, you aren't going be be denied and won't be in a "massive jam".

I have never seen someone whose application for an in country Non-O visa was accepted by immigrations (paid and got a return date) who was subsequently denied the Non-O 90 day visa.

You'll be fine. just wait it out..

That's normal when you get a 90 day Non-O visa inside Thailand. Just go back on the date and you will get the visa stamped in your passport. You'll need to return to the immigration office in the last 30 days of the visa to apply for a 12 month extension of stay.

OP
John Stanners thank you, in that case I´ll continue relaxing on the island and wait for the date to arrive.
