So, I know I've read multiple times that if on overstay, one cannot then get a new non b
However my local immigration office (Hatyai) has said that in fact I can, and advised my school to have me do that
Just wondering if it's possible? It's sort of a moot point because it will be happening as of tomorrow in reality

TLDR : Answer Summary
The general consensus among community members is that you cannot apply for a new Non-B visa if you are currently on overstay in Thailand. Although the local immigration office in Hatyai suggested that it's possible, this contradicts established rules. It's advised to avoid overstaying due to the risks involved, and confirmation from the immigration office in writing is recommended.

The rule is clear. You cannot apply for a new visa if you are on overstay. This is the top part of the requirements sheet on the immigration bureau site. If the officer of your local immigration office you are facing on your application gives you leniency or not is a totally different story.
