Applying for non-o 90 days extension in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Has anyone had experience with something like this? I was advised by a visa agent that I can fly out to Phnom Penh, apply for the 90 days non-o extension at the Thai Embassy there. Get the stamp for the extension. Come back to Bangkok, then I should be able to open a bank account. Transfer the 800k baht, let it sit there for at least 60 days. Afterwards apply for the 12 months Visa.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original post discusses the process of applying for a 90-day Non-O visa extension in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Users clarify that you cannot obtain a visa extension from a Thai embassy; extensions must be handled at immigration offices in Thailand. It is possible to apply for a Non-O visa at the embassy, which allows for a 90-day stay in Thailand, and users emphasize the need to meet financial requirements for both the visa and subsequent extension. Correct terminology and process steps are highlighted in the responses.

you mixed the names! In Cambodia, you apply for the "visa". Back in Thailand on Immigration, you apply for the "1-year Extension of stay permit" (which is NOT a "visa"). You must be able to show the financial proof for both the visa application and the 12- month extended stay permit application

That will work but you've got the names the wrong way around. In PP you get the Non-O Visa giving you a 90 day entry then when you meet the requirements you apply for the 12 month extension. Check on the Thai Embassy website for PP to see the requirements for the initial Visa.

I am in a similar situation as you and I am currently living in PP. I was at the Thai embassy in PP at the end of the year to pick up the Non O application. The agent there was pretty distant when I asked him some Qs. However, he did say I would need to show a bank statement, but he wouldnt say how much. I pressume it would be

800,000bt equivalent. I also asked I would need to show a plane ticket out, hotel, etc. He walked away...I do believe the apication there is for a year, at 200$ app fee, not 3 months. You would need to leave every 90 days. This is one reason I.m not sure if I.ll apply. I also recall there is a space for your Cambodian address( along with your home country address)

If you want to PM me, we can have a follow up discussion later. I have the application form stored somewhere.

@Paul ******
you can only apply for a multi entry 365-days Non-Imm-O visa in Phnom Penh, when you are a resident of Cambodia. This is out of reach of the OP

@Nongnuch *******
That's why I said Non-O with 90 day entry stamp then apply for extension
Paul *******
@Nongnuch *******
yes, I.m beginning to see this now. However, they also offer 90 day Non O visas from the embassy here, but again not sure if that's possible for the OP. I just contacted him by PM.

I told him I.m not sure if he needs a Cambodian address here to apply. I do have a housing lease here, and two bank accounts in Cambodia, so I think the 90 day Non O may be possible for me from here. Would you agree?

@Paul ******
if you hold official residency in Cambodia, yes you can
Paul *******
@Nongnuch *******
ok...thats for the info.

Offical residency is done through an embassy registation, or do you think a housing lease (and Cambodian bank account) would work?
Nongnuch ********
@Paul ******
well, I have no idea about details, likely a lease and a bank account are no proof of residency status. Isn't there a special stamp or permission in your passport with which you officially reside in Cambodia ?
Paul *******
@Nongnuch *******
I have a business visa in Cambodia, as I was employed here up till Oct of last year. I have a current work permit from Cambodia, and a housing lease here. However, I think to be an official resident here, I would need to declare that at my embassy... I appreciate your input...To be honest, I dont think I am offically a resident here, even though Ive been working here 10 years....I may take my housing lease to the embassy (and bank statements w Cambodian address)and try to ask the worker there again.

It will relay the info to the other person who started this post.

Thanks.

thank you for your commitment !

You can not apply for the NON O retirement visa at a Thai Embassy abroad (only in your home country).

If you are married to a Thai citizen you can apply for a NON O visa based on your marriage at a Thai Embassy abroad and in your home country.

@Vernon ********
Since when can't you apply for a Non Imm O visa based on being over 50 at a Thai Embassy? It's where 99% of people get their visas.

@Steve ******
He is an American asking about obtaining a NON O in Cambodia.

@Vernon ********
Yep, he can apply for a Non Imm O in PP, Cambodia

@Steve ******
Non O based on marriage but not Non O retirement.

Only in your home country.

@Vernon ********
It's the Non Imm OA that you can only apply for in your home country or a country you have PR in. They are 2 totally different visas

@Steve ******
I'm not talking about Non OA.

@Steve ******
You can't apply for Non O retirement abroad either, only Non O marriage.

Go to any Thai Embassy/Consulate website abroad and show me an application form for Non O retirement visa.

You're a little mixed up, or more likely using the wrong terminology.

You cannot get an extension from a Thai embassy, as extensions are only done at an immigration office in Thailand.

You can get a non-O visa at an embassy, and it will be valid for 90 days, and give you permission to stay in Thailand for 90 days once you enter.

You may also be able to apply to convert to a non-O visa inside Thailand, but you would need to have the bank account already, and having the non-O visa could potentially help you obtain the bank account.

You would need to check the website for the embassy you want to use and see what their requirements are for the visa you want, and also check to see if they require an appointment.

Once you're in Thailand you would want to open a bank account and transfer the money quickly as you need the money in the account for 2 full months before you apply for your extension, giving you a window of only 30 days to get it done within your 90 day permission to stay.

thanks, this is exactly what I wanted to know. Can I get the 90 days non-o visa from Phnom Penh? Come back to Thailand, open a bank account, transfer the necessary funds, then apply for 12 months retirement visa. It sounds like a yes.

@Lay ******
as long as this embassy issues non-O based on being over 50 to foreigners, and you qualify, then your plan is good.
