I am currently in Siem Reap and plan to travel to Bangkok next. It seems we will be travelling through the Poipet/Aranyaprathet border. Is it possible to get Visa Exempt entry as a UK citizen at this land border (this will be my second visa exempt entry this year).
I have looked online and there are mixed answers.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A UK citizen can enter Thailand visa exempt at the Poipet border, even for a second entry within the same calendar year. However, travelers should be prepared to present the "three proofs": proof of onward travel, proof of accommodation, and proof of sufficient funds (20,000 THB). There's always a slight chance of additional scrutiny at this border, but many have successfully crossed under similar circumstances.
most "bad" stories are based on "border bounce" experience, not on entry into Thailand after a stay inside Cambodia. however do get prepared, as I mentioned before, to show the "three proofs" if you don't know what they are, ask now
