The Canadian thai embassy and Consulate are scaring my buddy witless by insisting that a Canadian arriving from cambodia at a land crossing into Thailand MAY, at the officers discretion, only get 15 days Visa Exemption. He will have 20,000 baht and proof of a flight out within 30 days and my wife at the border to meet him to assure the thai officer he will be staying with us and the requisite TM30 will be completed that day. Can Tod or Robert please assure him that he will be allowed in on a 30 day visa exemption . He has no previous exemptions and two previous tourist visas 3 and 4 years ago.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Canadian entering Thailand from Cambodia at a land border may face scrutiny from immigration officials. The consul suggests that, depending on the officer's discretion, he could receive only a 15-day visa exemption instead of the usual 30 days. Despite having sufficient funds, proof of an onward flight, and a local contact, there is some concern regarding his eligibility for a longer stay.
