TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses the option of doing a visa run independently to the border crossing near Trat, with participants sharing their experiences and advice. Many agree that it is safe to do the border run alone, citing personal experiences without issues. However, they also mention important considerations, such as the limitation on the number of visa-exempt entries allowed per year for citizens of certain countries. Additionally, one commenter highlights logistical considerations regarding public transport and potential currency declaration challenges at the border.
The recent enforcement of an old rule regarding a show of 20k baht cash should be taken in to consideration when border bouncing (even though visa exemption is only supposed to be 10k!!). what do you think
Koh Kong is a nice town on the Cambodian side if you want to stay a day or two, I have spent a lot of time there. The only issue with that border is public transport, it's quite remote, so if you want to bounce and go back same day you'd want to make sure you could go BACK with whoever got you there. I had my own bike so no issue.
it was a pushbike so no paperwork. Motorbike might be more complicated for sure, but if you just wanted to do a border bounce you could park it on the Thai side and walk over to Cambodia (the customs posts are right beside each other). If you wanted to go on to Koh Kong for a night or two you could leave the bike in Thailand and get a moto taxi to Koh Kong which is around 10km from the border.
Hi Ivan Read your reply about the boarder at Koh Kong you mentioned you had your own bike could you tell me what paper work do you need to x there with your own motorbike if you have any info that would be great thanks
This border is like Poi Pet, practices full Cambodian bukshis scamming without style. My Son was there 2 months ago tried 30$us,no go,ended up paying 1500 baht for their visa, his bus was waiting though. When I've done a in out there had to pay another extortionate tax of 200 baht but that was 5 years ago.my Son's trat g/h sold him a bus ticket from trat to Snookville all inclusive for only 500 baht ex trat. A good deal.
Cambodian visa is $USD30, but beware this border is notorious for over charging, usually demanding Thai baht equivalent of around $40 + some other BS $1-2 fees.
