Has anyone arrived into Thailand on a tourist visa and exchanged it for a married visa?

I know in the past this couldn't be done, but with all the changes going on in Thailand it might be possible . Yes -No?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, it is possible to exchange a tourist visa for a married visa in Thailand, but it involves a two-step process. First, one must secure a Non-O visa based on marriage to a Thai, which requires having 400,000 baht in a Thai bank account in the applicant's name for at least two months prior to the application. After obtaining the Non-O visa, an extension of stay for a year can be applied for, which also has specific financial requirements.

uk embassy

the UK embassy website is vague. It doesn’t state an amount that you need to apply for a visa, just “proof of funds” (I believe that was the wording). To get a specific amount needed you might want to email them or message them via Facebook. I hear they respond quicker via Facebook.

I believe that you will require an O Visa in place in the first instance!

It can be done. It’s a two step process. With 400,000 baht in a Thai bank in your name only that is seen as have come from overseas you apply for an in country Non O visa based on marriage to a Thai. That costs 2,000 baht. Then when that visa starts to run down (ie 30 days left) you apply for an extension of stay for a year. That costs 1,900 baht. The 400k needs to have been in your account for 2 months prior to this application. They give you an under consideration stamp for 30 days. During this time some offices require the funds to remain in your bank. Once you go back and get the remaining year stamp you can then spend the funds as you see fit. To get a further year the funds will have to be back up to 400k prior to your next application.

@Ryan ****
the first amount of money doesn’t need seasoning, just to be seen to have come from overseas.

Open a bank account. You can also get a 60 day extention based on marriage giving you 150 days to open an account and season the funds
