Good morning, all.
I have a family member that has recently arrived in Thailand and I want to be sure of what I've told her is so.
All British passports. She has arrived with her partner and two young kids on visa-exempt. They are not married and the kids have the father's surname. The dad has been offered a job in the south, Non-b, etc. She asked if she could piggyback off his non-b as a spouse or get a Non O based on the kids. But, as they are not married and the kids do not have her surname I don't believe it's possible. Can you confirm either way? If this is the case, I suggested they get married here. She does not plan on working here because she needs to take care of the young boys.
TLDR : Answer Summary
A family member from the UK, traveling on visa-exempt status with her partner and children, inquired about her visa options given their unmarried status. The consensus is that she cannot piggyback on her partner's Non-B visa due to their marital status and the children's surnames. Alternative options include applying for a Non-O visa based on being a mother, but she must have the necessary documents proving her relationship with the children. Getting married in Thailand is suggested but may be complicated within their current visa constraints.
