Hi everyone!

I'm planning to give birth here in Thailand while staying on a DTV (Destination Thailand Visa). For those who have had a baby here on a DTV, could you share how you added your newborn to the same visa without having to fly back to your home country?

Thanks in advance!
Answer summary
The discussion revolves around the process of adding a newborn to a Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) when giving birth in Thailand. Several users shared their experiences and insights. It is possible to add a newborn as a dependent to a DTV, provided one follows the correct steps which include obtaining a birth certificate and a passport from the respective embassy. Important documents needed for the immigration office include the baby's passport, birth certificate, your DTV visa copy, and your passport. Some users advised that although it might seem feasible to do everything in Thailand, returning to one's home country to apply for a visa could be necessary in some cases due to evolving immigration rules. There are mixed opinions on whether one can handle everything without returning home, highlighting the complexities of Thai immigration procedures.

Congrats on your plan to give birth in Thailand. Many DTV holders did this. After birth you will get a Thai birth certificate from hospital, then you must get a passport for baby from your own embassy in Bangkok. After that go to Thai immigration office quickly because baby will have no visa at first and can get overstay if you wait too long.

For DTV you can add newborn as dependent. DTV allows spouse and children under twenty to be added as dependent of main holder. You will need birth certificate, baby passport, your DTV visa copy, and your passport. Immigration or Thai consulate will help you add baby to your DTV so you do not need to fly home. Some offices ask you to apply for dependent DTV online for baby.

To get full steps for birth papers, embassy passport, and how to add baby as dependent without leaving Thailand, I saw clear steps for DTV families in Unlock Thailand by Isla Rey on Amazon, it covers birth and newborn visa and how to avoid overstay. Very useful for your case.

I’d recommend returning to your home country before giving birth, if possible. If your baby is already born in Thailand, you’ll need to register the birth, collect all necessary documents from the hospital, and obtain a passport through your embassy. You may also need additional exit pass, depending on your nationality. Unfortunately, Thai immigration procedures can be quite complicated in situations like this. One of my friends went through something similar, and it was a real hassle. You shouldn’t rely on people saying there’s absolutely no risk of immigration issues or blacklisting under 15, because every case is different. Better to prepare carefully rather than face unexpected complications later.

If your baby is born here, they won't need a visa u til you leave the country for the first time. To be on DTV, as others have said, it'll have to be done in your home country. Kids under 15 don't get fine for overstaying visa or visa exempt. They'll shake their finger at you and make a note when you're leaving if you do this, but there's no blacklist or penalty. They still recommend you get a visa for them, but I'm just letting you know in case your first trip abroad isn't to your home country and you wanted to know your options in the meantime 👍🏼

First of all you cannot add your newborn to the same visa, you will need a separate visa application as a dependent. After the 1st of September, it is not possible anymore to apply from a country where you have no residency. Unfortunately you will have to return to your home country and apply from there. Count at least 4 weeks for the process, just in case, regardless if others were approved in a few days or 2 weeks

Minors under 15 can stay, leave, and return without fines or being blacklisted.

It is only possible in your country of citizenship or your country of permanent residence. And you can't apply from Thailand.

You can’t. You don’t ever “add” someone to a DTV visa. However, someone can apply based as being a dependent of someone who already has a DTV. However, they would need to apply via the Thai embassy in their home embassy or where they have permanent residency
