Jomtien Immigration changes or agent BS?

Friends stay will be 66 days total. He entered on visa exempt and has extended (with agent) 30 days, which they said had to be done in Korat as Jomtien no longer issuing 30 day extensions???

Agent also said immigration won’t grant him a further weeks extension and he’ll have to do a border run in order not to incur a 6 day overstay.

Any of this correct??

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion clarifies misconceptions about Jomtien Immigration's policies regarding visa exemptions and extensions. Participants confirm that Jomtien has not stopped issuing 30-day extensions and criticize the reliance on agents for such extensions. They emphasize that a visa-exempt individual can only extend their stay once by 30 days, after which a border run is necessary to re-enter Thailand. Additionally, comments mention the consequences of overstaying, which involve fines and an overstay stamp in the passport.

If he's already at 66 days, he's 6 days overstay already. As soon as he attempts to leave the country anywhere he will incur a 500 baht per day fine, plus get an "overstay" stamp in his passport

Not at 66, he has 3 weeks left.

I don't see how that works. If he entered on 30 day entry stamp and got a 30 day extension, that's 60 days. If he's now on day 66 how does he have three weeks left?

Because you’ve read it wrong. He’s currently on his extension now, but thinking about what happens in 3 weeks time when it ends and he still has 6 days left in Thailand.

Ok. It's easy. He either reschedules his leave date to day 60, or on day 59 he goes to immigration and applies for another extension, which will be declined, and he will be given a "Seven Days To Leave Thailand" stamp, which will take him to day 66. No border runs, no fine, no overstay

To answer the first question that is BS

Second question is true

It's half BS.

No office would just "stop" giving a standard extension, which the 30 day extension on visa exempt is. That's one of the simplest extensions to get in all of Thailand, and I'm not sure why you would ever go to an agent for that. You're just asking for trouble, because now you have a sketchy stamp from an office nowhere near you.

Jomtien is known as one of the most difficult offices in Thailand as they often send people away after they've waited in line, only to tell them to come back when they have 2-3 days left on their current stamp. But they are also known, or were known, as an office that issues a lot of bribery based extensions as well. This meant other offices didn't want anything to do with a passport that already had a stamp from Jomtien.

So you could have easily gotten a 30 day extension from Jomtien, but your agent's connections are not in that office, they are in Korat, so that's where they get their extensions from.

Visa exempt can get ONE 30 day extension. There are no other options after that. You would need to leave the country and enter again to get additional time in the country.
