Hello All,

Looking for some collective wisdom here. Thank you very much :)

**Question:

**I’m wondering which border (land or air is ok) is currently the most lax for re-entry to Thailand. I just need another 30-60 days while my work visa is in process.

**Background:

**I’m American (caucasian, if it matters).

I was grilled pretty aggressively on my last re-entry into Thailand (Suvarnabhumi) from India and I was told it was the last time I was going to be allowed to enter Thailand on any kind of tourist visa. I was entering on a valid METV issued by the Thai consulate in Los Angeles & all of my return flights, bank statements, etc.

They asked a lot of questions, checked all of my docs, and made me write and sign a statement about what I was doing, where I was staying etc. Ultimately they let me in, but I’m not sure if they will again. Every answer led to more questions.

I had some varying stamps in my passport, including the dreaded “volunteer visa” but no Covid extensions. They didn’t bring up any stamps specifically, just the fact that I had been living in Thailand for 20 months since my last work permit. They didn’t care that I had been in 5 countries (USA twice for a collective 3 months) during this time.

I’ve since changed my passport to put some distance between myself and the stamps. My current visa only shows the transfer of the METV + 1 30 day extension. I don’t know if this helps, or what the system stays about me now.

I’ve gotten a new job and the work visa is on the way, but it won’t be ready before my current visa expires in Mid-January.

I only need one more Visa run to give the time to process the Visa, so my question is which border should I use. I’m happy to use any airport or land border in the country.

My thought was to use one of the smaller international airports like Hat Yai, Krabi, Surat Thani, etc., but can also use bigger, more touristy ones like Chaing Mai or Phuket. Also open to use any land border.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Hi, does anyone know about this boarder crossing, I have never used it before. I just need to do a quick in and out for my 90 days. I have a 1 year extension of stay based on marriage. Is it a simple crossing, can you walk across or are you at the mercy of the touts? Cost of the visa into Cambodia? What time is it open? Any useful info greatly appreciated

A word of warning to all: avoid the Padang Besar border with Malaysia. I was turned down for no good, sound reason (made up inconsistent requirements about cash currency and paper-printed hotel bookings). The officer was rude and unreasonable and I was given an expulsion slip! Went to the Sadao border and granted entry. However, I can confirm that an instant u-turn re-entry is impossible at both. The friendly Sadao officer who let me in after one night in Malaysia recommended minimum 3 nights in Malaysia and said Laos is still the best option. That being said, two older guys I met in Malaysia (with perhaps more back-to-back visas) were denied entry at Sadao as well based on an entry cancellation stamp stamped at Padang Besar. Avoid PB at all costs, they are extremely unfriendly towards white / western foreigners.

Warning about the Aranyaprathet - Poi Pet border with Cambodia

For a good while now this border crossing with Cambodia has been known to be tough to deal with. Now more and more people who are bouncing out/back in for a 30 day visa exempt entry are being denied (even though they have not exceeded the two 30 day visa exempt entries by land in a year)

AND

people with valid multi-entry visas who are bouncing to activate another entry on their current visa are being told NOT to bounce at that border again. Some are even getting written notes in their passport stating they should apply for an extension of stay instead.

I just wanted to let everyone know that there are FAR more user friendly borders to bounce out and back in at and if you can I'd give that border crossing a pass (unless you're going there with a border bounce company in a group).

A good choice for a border bounce from Bangkok is the Phu Nam Ron - Htee Kee border with Myanmar in Kanchanaburi.
