DTV Visa was just issued from RTE in Berlin, Germany.
-
What I submitted:
- Biometric Passport Picture
- Copy of both sides of German ID card (“Personalausweis”) with “home” address on it (for proof of location)
- A letter written by myself as owner and director of a company registered in Germany that I am the sole / 100% shareholder of, confirming that I am free to work remotely from everywhere including Thailand and that I have access to company funds exceeding 500k THB + copy of company registration papers (“Handelsregisterauszug” + “Gewerbeanmeldung”).
- One / a most recent bank statement of one of my savings accounts in my personal name with an opening and closing sum in EUR exceeding 500k THB – with all other individual transactions and bank account numbers etc. redacted / black-inked.
-
What I was asked to re-submit:
- A different biometric picture (the first one I uploaded didn’t seem good enough for them, even though the system initially said it was and even though I thought it was just as good as what I have always used before).
- The copy of my German ID card in a color instead of a grayscale scan (even though that same grayscale scan always worked for them before).
-
How long did it take?
After 9 working days, they requested the two changed uploads. Today, after 13 working days the visa was issued – on the day I told them in the form that I would fly to Thailand. Initially, I would have already been in the air to Thailand by now – but had to postpone this flight for different reasons anyways.
-
What to note?
The passport I used expires on a date a few months before the end date of the DTV validity. They noted that in Thai in a Remarks section of the visa. So, I assume, that transferring this visa to a new passport might be tricky – remains to be seen. But even if I will have lost a few months off of it in the end, still a good deal for now. Might switch to LTR soon anyways – depending on taxation and other developments.

Hope this information helps others planning to get the DTV from a Thai consulate in Germany, especially the Thai embassy in Berlin. Have a great day everyone.
