Hey, I’m planning to apply soon for DTV as a remote worker. I just got a new job at a new employer with a fully remote contract starting soon.
Is there generally a certain minimum amount of time/tenure you need to be actively employed on your current contract for DTV application? How much time on your current contract is needed for remote worker DTV application?
I wanted to share my experience using Issa Compass for DTV application — if that’s okay — in case it’s helpful for others in this group. This isn’t an ad, I just had a really positive experience and thought I’d pass it along.
I first tried applying on my own in Taipei for the remote worker category and got denied (back in December, when Taipei was still in person. I was coming off of a non-B, with a brand new contract, and they hated that). So I decided to hang out on tourist visa for a few months and try again in Ho Chi Minh City.
I was really worried about getting denied again and wasting money. So this time I decided to try Issa Compass. I think I would have been approved anyway if I did it myself, but tbh this just took a lot of stress off me to use their services. I got approved yesterday (in 6 working days). The DTV visa fee is $340 in Vietnam I think, and I paid $487 total, including the service + visa cost (so like 147 for service).
I did the free consultation with them where they determined if I was a good fit for the DTV. Obviously, you can do this all yourself, but having an expert check everything just made me feel way more comfortable after the denial the first time. I’ve seen a lot of people say they got denied over little errors like a passport number being input incorrectly, so I wanted to have a second pair of eyes look at my documents.
I uploaded my documents directly into the app (it’s cool tbh, really user-friendly. You can see in second picture), and they’ll review them all before you pay anything. I compiled all myself when I applied the first time, and it’s easy if you’re organized, but this just really made it super simple, and I knew I didn’t forget anything.
They review your docs pretty quickly and once done, then you can leave the country. I messaged them when I landed with like a picture of my boarding pass and they submitted the DTV application for me immediately.
When I was in Vietnam, they communicated with the embassy for me as well (there was a follow up question about like pay slips vs. direct deposits), and we had a WhatsApp group the whole time where I could ask questions and get the updates.
And yesterday my visa came through! So anyway, I just wanted to share because it’s like a cool middle ground between doing it yourself and getting a full on agent.
Thai embassy in Sweden is amazing. I applied for the DTV visa online and two days after I received a request for additional documents. They asked for payslips and a letter verifying my remote work status. While my employment contract clearly states that I can work remotely, I also provided a letter from my CEO confirming this. I recieved my approval letter the same day I sent in the payslips.
have a question about the DTV I am Medically retired but not 50. I have more then the required monthly income and I have the required amount in the bank am I able to apply for the DTV. Also does any one know a trusted agency.
This group was helpful when i prepared my application so i wanted to return the favor and share my experience with applying for DTV in phnom penh, cambodia.
I am a self employed developer and so I applied for workcation on Friday march 28 around 9pm. Visa approved today April 11. Exactly 14 days (2 weekends included) from application to approval.
I was previously on a spouse extention for 3 years and before that on ed visas. This seems to have not been an issue at all.
I was not asked for anything extra. My visa status was updated to "pending approval" on march 31 (first day after the weekend) and then went to "Approved" today. No news or changes in between.
Documents submitted:
I am a bit of an over preparer so I spend a good 4 days preparing 3 pdfs. Each pdf had a clickable table of contents and I highlighted a lot important information.
1. Proof of location.
- Scan of passport stamp arriving in cambodia
- I asked for payment receipt in the hotel and included it.
- Also included my e-boarding pass to cambodia
- added a cover letter to explain I flew from Bangkok to cambodia and that I understand I have to stay in cambodia until I receive a decision
2. Proof of financials
I flew out of Thailand on the same day that I applied for the visa. Flew in the afternoon and applied in the evening. Before leaving thailand, I went to kbank branch and asked for signed statements and a signed cover letter stating I have 500 000 baht in the account on the same day as the application. I provided 4 months statement but only 1 good month had the 500 000 in it. Before that the balance was just over 100 000. I do use the bankaccount daily or so they can see that.
- Signed and stamped bank statement from thai kbank
- signed and stamped cover letter from kbank
- payslips covering the same 4 months of the statement
- a coverletter in which I explain where my money comes from and also included a currency conversion table so they easily could understand the payslips in euro vs the bank statements in baht.
3. Proof of business.
I included a 27 page pdf to proof I have my own company. This pdf included:
- Coverletter of almost 3 pages.
- Employment contract to myself, signed by myself and it stated that I am allowed to work remote which I also highlighted.
- Proof of business incorporation in estonia.
- Result of my company financials of the last 5 years.
- Portfolio overview with a lot of screenshots and explanations and links to online sites to proof everything I was saying.
- Screenshots of my website and customer testimonials.
Super smooth for me in cambodia. Just have to be aware that it will take around 2 weeks. If you are fine with that then cambodia seems like the place to apply from.
My DTV Visa Experience (Approved in 3 Days – No Agent, No Hassle)
Hi everyone, I wanted to share my experience getting the Digital Nomad/Remote Worker (DTV) visa — especially for anyone feeling overwhelmed or confused. This group was a huge help while I was applying, so here’s a full breakdown of what worked for me (even when I went against some common advice).
Application Timeline:
• Applied online: April 7th
• Re-submitted extra documents: April 8th
• Visa approved: April 10th
• Visa type: 5-Year Digital Nomad (DTV)
• No agent used — I did everything myself online
A Few Key Things That Worked for Me:
• I stayed in Da Nang while waiting but selected Hanoi as my immigration office. I’d read this could be an issue, but it wasn’t — the visa was approved without a problem.
• I wouldn’t book two weeks of accommodation next time… the process was much faster than expected!
Payment Problems (and the Fix):
The system kept failing during the payment stage — it would freeze or just load endlessly. Even when my banking app sent me a confirmation notification, the payment still didn’t go through.
Solution: I turned off my VPN, and it worked immediately. Worth trying if you’re stuck.
Uploading Documents:
The system only allows one file, so I had to combine documents (like payslips and bank statements) into a single PDF.
When you preview the uploaded file, it only shows the first page, which made me panic — but the full upload was there.
Documents I Provided:
• A work contract showing my salary and remote status
• A letter from the company director confirming my job is fully remote
• One month of bank statements at first (despite hearing you need two)
I’d read two months were required, but I only uploaded March — and it was accepted. The funds had been transferred in February but weren’t shown initially.
Extra Info Requested:
The next morning, I received an email asking for:
• Payslips (no number specified)
• Company registration documents (needed to be provided by the employer)
So I uploaded a new PDF with:
• Two months of payslips (not a huge amount — around £2,000 across both months, which didn’t match the salary listed in my contract, but it didn’t seem to matter)
• Company registration document
My Cover Letter (for reference):
“I am writing to confirm that [applicant name] is employed as a Project Manager on a fully remote basis. Their role includes managing product development projects, coordinating with suppliers, and identifying and engaging with prospective distributors worldwide. All responsibilities are carried out entirely remotely, with no obligation to attend any physical office premises.”
(That was it. Short and clear.)
Final Thoughts:
• The process was completely online, and I never had to go into an immigration office.
• No interviews, no calls, no drama — just a bit of document combining and some patience.
• I wouldn’t worry if your documents aren’t perfect or your bank statement doesn’t show a huge amount or if you need to transfer the money the month before… — mine didn’t match up exactly, and it still worked.
⸻
Key Tips:
• Turn off your VPN if the payment portal is glitching.
• Combine your documents into one PDF for uploading.
• Don’t panic if the preview only shows the first page — it’s normal.
• Even if you hear “you must do XYZ” — your case might still be fine. Trust the process.
Hope this helps someone out there — feel free to ask if you’ve got questions!
Hi all, I’ve been in the group for a while and had a question. Currently, I’m living in Thailand on an ‘educational’ visa, working remotely. I want to apply for the DTV around September, from my home country. However, my employer doesn’t actually know I’m working abroad, and I don’t think they’d allow it either. In other words, I won’t be able to provide a confirmation letter stating that I’m allowed to work abroad.
What I do have is an employment statement that shows I’m working remotely. It doesn’t explicitly mention that I’m allowed to work abroad, but it doesn’t disprove it either. My question is: Would this be sufficient for the application? And does it matter that I’ve been on an educational visa previously? Once this visa expires, I’ll apply for the DTV.
