DTV Visa for Retired Canadian – Is It Really Possible?

I’m a Canadian retiree (from Québec) and I’m currently looking into the new Destination Thailand Visa (DTV).

Some agencies told me it is *very easy* for a retiree like me to obtain this visa, but others say it’s *not possible* since the DTV is not meant for retirees. I would really appreciate hearing from people with first-hand experience.

* My profile: fully retired, no financial issues (very high investment income and bank assets, more than enough to qualify for any financial requirement).

* My goal: to stay in Thailand for several months every year without the hassle of making large deposits in a Thai bank like the O-A/O-X retirement visas require.

Here are my main questions:

1. Is the DTV visa truly possible for a retiree (50+, Canadian passport)?

2. Can I apply directly through the embassy/consulate myself, or do I absolutely need to go through an agency?

3. If you recommend using an agency, which reliable one would you suggest?

4. If I can apply on my own, what documents do I need to prepare (income proof, bank statements, insurance, proof of “activity” for DTV, etc.)?

5. Has anyone here already obtained a DTV as a retiree and could share their real experience?

Thank you very much for your advice! 🙏

Advice o applying for a non o retirement visa? Online from Australia or wait until I get to Thailand and use an agent? If I apply and get accepted in Australia there is only one embassy here, do they know at the airport when I arrive in Bangkok that I have been approved? Thanks in advance 🙏🏻

I have had several O-A visas and a couple 2-month tourist visas - all in the past six years. I'm now on a 2-month visa after deciding not to extend my O-A. Can I still apply for and receive an O-A visa again after my 2-month visa expires? Can I apply for it inside Thailand or would I have to apply from elsewhere? For my previous O-A visas I never had to move money into a Thai bank. IF I can apply for an O-A visa again, will I be required to transfer a whopping sum into my Thai bank account? The rationale for that money policy seems to be to ensure that Thailand is making money off the foreigner holding the visa. Are you prevented from eventually transfering most or part of the money back to your foreign accounts? I'm too lazy to look for these answers online, where information seems incomplete and sometimes out of date. I hope one of you longtime Thai visa veterans can give me the lowdown.
