Is it normal to receive a 90-day tourist visa instead of the expected 60 days when applying in Laos?

Just picked up my shiny new visa in Laos, nice surprise its the full 90 days not the 60 (tourist visa) which I applied for, is that normal? I would of extended it anyway but this saves me the hassle and fee.

First time doing it in Laos couldn't of been easier, get there early by 8 am queued for 45 mins, pickup next day in 15 mins
