Does anyone know of a specific bank/branch that will open a bank account for a foreigner with tourist visa?

I am in the process of obtaining a guardian visa and hoping that an acceptance letter from school may allow me to open a Thai bank account ?

I'm very confused. I'm wanting to get a retirement visa for Thailand but have been given conflicting advice. One source says I need to deposit the required amount of money in a Thai bank account before I can apply for the visa, Bangkok Bank say I have to open that account in person in Thailand. I'm sure it must be more straightforward than that. Any help greatly appreciated

Which banks and what types of accounts pay the best interest on our visa deposits? Also, which bank is the easiest to open an account for a farang? I heard Bangkok Bank was the easiest. My wife is Thai and is well respected so I assume I could probably open an account at any bank.
