Will my visa status reset if I leave Thailand on New Year's Eve and return in 2018?

Is this true? I've been told that if I leave Thailand New Years Eve and come back in 2018, my visa status will reset. I'm on my third tourist visa. Can I do this and do another round of 3?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster (O/P) inquired about the possibility of resetting their visa status by leaving Thailand on New Year's Eve and returning in 2018, as they were on their third tourist visa. Commenters clarified that visa status does not reset in the way the O/P suggested. Specifically, the reset only applies to 30-day visa exempt entries, allowing for two such entries within a calendar year. If the O/P is asking about tourist visas, they cannot simply reset by exiting the country; their entries and exits are recorded and influence their future visa options. Multiple commenters emphasized the importance of understanding the types of entries (e.g., visa exempt versus tourist visas) and noted that there is a limit on border crossings per year.

I think the O/P knows now that there is no reset of their VISA history. The reset they were referring to is only for 30 day visa exempt entries. You can get two 30 day visa exempt entries in a calendar year. Meaning on Jan 1, 2018 people who have had two 30 day visa exempt entries can get two more.

I will caution members to stay on topic. I deleted a response by the O/P because of the myriad of off topic comments. Please contribute to the questions asked in threads or don't respond. You wanna bitch piss and moan or slag each other off go to the Everything Bangkok group.;)

You are working, you should get the correct visa and work permit.

You need to agree to work full time at one dive shop. I've got a project building plastic recycling workstation and filming the trash on land and underwater. I don't mean to brake rules, but I'm feeling there's opportunity here and just need half a year or so.

I worked for 13 years in Thailand as Dive Instructor, it is very easy to get a Work Permit for it. Never worked without the WP.

Lloyd do you happen to work for Thai immigration?

@Lloyd *******
this is true...the only time in life it ever matters is when you get caught, then it goes into damage control....

That does not change the law, or excuse breaking it.

Its nearly impossible to get a WP for a Dive Instructor...

There is no reset of visa status. All entrees and exits are stored in the Database of Immigration. You can enter Thailand by land border twice a calendar year using the Visa Exempt Entry. a Tourist Visa you get from Consulate or Embassy and is a sticker in your passport, see example:

Technically you can do 2 back to back land crossings and a 30 stamp on 1 Jan....

No. The only thing that resets is your 2 visa exempt entries via a land border

I'm guessing you by visa status mean visa exempt stamp, and by round of 3 you mean the max 2 land boarder crossings per year?

No but a question about border crossings... I've been getting 1 month extensions followed by a visa runs... could I have been doing border hops on top of the extensions?
